The Howard Assembly Room welcomes Sanskrati Wahane, a remarkable sitarist from the prestigious Etawah gharana, whose musical journey began at the extraordinary age of five. Emerging as a prodigious talent after a breakthrough home video in 2016, Wahane has since established herself as a compelling voice in Indian classical music.
Trained under the guidance of legendary musicians Ustad Shahid Parvez and Pandit Suresh Talwalkar, she brings exceptional technical mastery and profound emotional depth to her performance. Her playing beautifully balances gayaki ang (vocal-like expression) and tantrakari ang (instrumental brilliance), honouring her classical lineage while creating something deeply personal and contemporary.
Wahane's exceptional skills have been recognised through numerous prestigious awards, including the All-India Radio National Competition and the Shri Ravi Koppiker Memorial Award from ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
Accompanying her will be Junaid Ali, one of the UK's most promising tabla players, whose dynamic and sensitive rhythmic accompaniment promises to complement Wahane's sitar performance.
