Pictures of Tilling and Weaving showcases the historical research, participatory workshops and artistic responses to the 'If Walls Could Talk' project.
If Walls Could Talk is a participatory art and heritage project led by artist and researcher Dr Louise Atkinson to reinterpret the Chinese export wallpaper at Harewood House.
Through a series of creative activities, participants from with Chinese-speaking community groups in Leeds explored photography, collage, repeat pattern design, animation and augmented reality to learn more about the different artistic processes involved in the creating the artwork and contribute to its development.
Presented alongside information about the origins of the wallpaper, this exhibition invites audiences to consider how heritage can be reimagined through community art and digital interpretation.
The exhibition also includes a set of augmented reality posters, as well as a digital wallpaper featuring images from the contemporary artwork combined with Chinese wallpaper motifs.
Please join us for a celebration and exhibition opening on Friday 26 September from 5 to 7pm. All welcome, no need to book!
