Internationally acclaimed Cuban Violinist returns to home territory with his new project.

The Omar Puente Charanga Jazz Sextet, is designed with dance in mind, blending original tunes with fresh arrangements of traditional Cuban favourites, adding the influences of African rhythm and modern jazz to the mix. The lineup features trumpet, timbales, bass, piano and congas and never fails to get everyone up on their feet moving to Cuban, Charanga and Salsa rhythms.

‘Omar Puente’s contribution to 20th and 21st century violin playing has now become legendary. His generous nature, his commitment to good music, his enjoyment of life and his respect for his colleagues are all characteristics which make him a true violin great’ – Nigel Kennedy

Internationally renowned for his masterful performances in a variety of musical styles, world class violinist and educator Omar Puente is nothing short of a true virtuoso. After establishing himself as an accomplished musician on his native Cuban soil, Omar moved to England in 1997 and has since captivated audiences in Europe, the Middle and Far East, the USA and Africa.

Having maintained close ties with traditional Cuban music, Omar blends this influence with his extensive training in the classical and jazz idioms, resulting in a musical voice that is rich with energy and colour, matching his charismatic, larger-than-life personality.

Throughout his career Omar has performed at many distinguished venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and the Royal Albert Hall, supporting and sharing the stage with a whole host of other esteemed stars including Tito Puente, John Williams, Nigel Kennedy, Courtney Pine and Wynton Marsalis.

His many accolades include The 2018 Lukas Award for Classical, Jazz or Folk Act of the Year, a top 10 placement for Songline Magazine's Album of the Year and a nomination for Best Jazz Soloist in the 21st International CubaDisco Fair in 2017.

'[This album] marks his graduation to a bandleader, arranger and composer to match the accomplished soloist' – Jazzwise ★★★★

‘It's a fiery and exuberant set, touching on Africa, Cuba and England as it progresses.’ – Songlines Magazine ★★★★
