Offshoots is back in February at a new venue: Holding Patterns! Free entry with performances from Lewys Holt, Territorial Gobbing, Harvey Parkin Christie and Teruki Chan.
Lewys Holt is a dance artist and improviser who has worked internationally as a performer, choreographer and teacher for 10 years. They make work that crosses dance with stand up comedy with performance art. There is a subtle and sometimes not so subtle humour to their work which often explores repetition, confusion, miscommunication, existential philosophy and bus timetables alongside textural elements of sound and movement that vary between flowing and glitching.
Described as “a genuine original improviser.” By Fergus Quill, UK saxophonist Harvey Parkin-Christie is a stalwart of leeds’ thriving improvised music scene often performing guerrilla style shows forcing urgent saxophone into all manner of shapes, adopting techniques such as playing two horns at once, described by Graeme Murrell as “Muscular sax extrapolations”
Harvey has performed with various free jazz ensembles in Tsuruga Japan, Reykjavik Iceland and Szeged Hungary. In addition to his tenor sax work, he is known for performing with a series of homemade wind instruments created in collaboration with innovative instrument designer Dave Walker.
Territorial Gobbing is a Leeds based experimental music venture from one brain under one roof (other brains will be specified). Harsh cutup, tape collage, drone, pop songs, minimalist piano workouts. Free Music
