Monoprinting uses a plate and stencil process and multiple layers of oil-based ink to make unique prints. This process is a great first introduction into printmaking – you’ll learn about inks and paper, and use our fantastic range of etching presses and equipment in the workshop.
Starting out with simple shapes and block colours you can build up into complex designs, textures and shades to create a series of prints onto paper.
What experience do I need?
This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with some experience. People with an established artistic practice will find they get a lot of new ideas from the unexpected designs they produce. Those who aren’t that confident about their drawing and imagery will also get a lot out of monoprint – simple shapes and an open mind will get you a long way with this process!

Access
Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and accessible toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one blue badge car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street, subject to availability.
Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
