Mestisa is a Latin American Folk Ensemble based in Leeds. Founding Members are Barbara Kempf and Ana Luisa Munoz of Chilean and Bolivian/German origins. They have been playing together for over 15 years performing at charity events and festivals. Their aim is to promote Latin American music and culture. Their music has been influenced by Mercedes Sosa, Lila Downs, Pascuala Ilabaca, Los Fronterizos, Inti Illimani, Los Kjarkas, Chavela Vargas, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Violeta Parra and a range of traditional styles of Latin American music.
For this special event, Mestisa will explore Zamacueca, Cumbia, Lando, Milonga; and other rhythms born out of the collision of culture brought on by voluntary and forced migration to a continent with its own rich cultural heritage.
