Manchester Collective invites audiences on an extraordinary sonic expedition that traverses expansive musical landscapes, from the crystalline horizons of Alaska to otherworldly sonic territories.
John Luther Adams' 'Canticles of the Sky' forms the centrepiece of this performance, a string quartet work inspired by the Arctic's luminous phenomena - where sunbeams dance across ice crystals, creating vivid halos and sundogs. The composition captures the subtle, steady transformation of light and landscape, offering listeners a profound sensory experience of northern wilderness.
Complementing Adams' work, the programme features Arvo Pärt's 'Summa', a piece renowned for its radiant simplicity, and a new commissioned work by Jasmine Morris that promises to manipulate time and perception through slow-evolving, otherworldly textures.
The evening also features a rare opportunity to experience music inspired by Mica Levi's experimental approach, known for groundbreaking film scores that challenge conventional musical boundaries.
Sky With the Four Suns is not just a concert, but a journey through sound that promises to transport the Howard Assembly Room far beyond the familiar.
