Explore the basics of letterpress on this one day workshop with the guidance of experienced letterpress artist, David Armes.
Learn how to use traditional wood and lead type on our one day letterpress workshop. You will spend the morning working on the Albion press to make improvised backgrounds using a variety of wood type to explore inking techniques. You will then cut these parent sheets down and use the tabletop Adana press to set and print one or two lines of smaller metal type onto A5 size postcards. The aim is to briefly introduce you to a couple of approaches to using letterpress and enable you to think about next steps.

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is fully wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and disabled toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at email@example.com to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one dedicated disabled car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street.
