Wetherby Festival

Leeds Symphony Orchestra is delighted to be part of the Wetherby Festival once again. The programme features Mozart’s overture to The Magic Flute, Stravinsky’s Symphonies of Wind Instruments, and Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin, showcasing the talents of orchestra members, Alison Major and Camilla Bisengaliev. This year, they will also be making full use of the powerful organ at St James’s Church in a performance of Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3. We hope you can join us for an evening of soaring melodies and symphonic storytelling.

Mozart - Overture to the Magic Flute

Stravinsky - Symphonies of Wind Instruments

Bach - Double Concerto for Violin and Oboe

Saint-Saëns - Organ Symphony no. 3 in C Minor

Camilla Bisengaliev

Our soloist tonight for the Bach Double Concerto: Camilla Bisengaliev is an award-winning Kazakh oboist and educator.

Her educational journey started in Almaty. After graduating from Kazakh State Music College with distinction she won a scholarship to study in the UK.

As part of her work for various orchestras including the Kazakh State Symphony Orchestra (KZ), Symphony Orchestra of India (India), Orchestra Nuova Musica (Italy), Opera North (UK), National Festival Orchestra (UK) and others, she was able to travel and realise how grateful she is to the amazing teachers she was lucky to have. Professor T. Nuraliev, Richard Hewitt, Stephane Rancourt, Emily Pailthorpe, Diana Keech, Professor Lamuraglia have all been truly inspiring.

Some highlights of Camilla’s time in Leeds include meeting the late Her Majesty The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace, recording for Naxos, EMI, Sony BMG, working with Sir Karl Jenkins and becoming a member of Opera North, Harrogate Ladies College and The Grammar School at Leeds teams.

Camilla is immensely grateful to the A.J. Burton Charitable Foundation for their support during her studies in the UK.
