Tilda Swinton plays Jessica Holland, a woman from a village in Scotland, begins to notice strange sounds while traveling in Bogota visiting her sister who is ill in hospital.  She’s bothered by the sounds which she hears repeatedly and are disturbing her sleep and seeks to find where the sounds are coming from and why…

Some actresses would have leaned into the relative insanity of Jessica’s predicament, but Swinton carries it in a concerned look or a tightened posture. . “Memoria” is a sensory experience, but it takes a performer like Swinton to amplify the Director’s technique. We’re not just hearing the babbling brook and chirping birds on a soundtrack—we’re hearing them through Jessica’s ears. There will be thousands of words written on what “Memoria” is about but none of the readings of it would have any value without Swinton to centre them.”
