This course will introduce you to some of the processes you can access at Leeds Print Workshop and give you the basic skills to continue using them after the course. The tutor will demonstrate:
Monoprinting – using oil based relief printing inks you will produce one-off multicolour prints working with paper stencils and our presses.
Collograph – you will use collage to create images that will be printed using our our presses.
Drypoint – working directly onto a printing plate you will use various mark-making tools and then print using our specialist our presses.
Linocut – Single colour. Using specialist cutting tools you will be shown how to safely cut lino and print using relief inks, rollers, presses, barens and burnishers.
You will learn each of the processes in a supportive environment with all equipment and materials provided.
What experience do I need?
This course is aimed at mixed levels including beginners and those with some previous experience.
If you have attended previous courses, we encourage you to develop your skills and will be supported with tutor guidance to build your confidence.
All the processes lend themselves well to simple image making using pattern as well as representational images so don’t be put off if you don’t feel confident with drawing.
What will I make?
With monoprint and collograph expect to make up to about 10 different A4 prints in each session. For drypoint expect to make up to 10 variations of an A6 printing plate on A5 paper. With linocut you would expect to make an A5 printing plate and around 10 copies of the print on A4 paper.

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and accessible toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one blue badge car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street, subject to availability.
Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
