This concert will last approximately 50 minutes.
The expressive colours of the cathedral’s organ are used to the full in a wide-ranging programme of orchestral transcriptions from the 18th to the 20th centuries. The only original piece in the programme, George Thalben-Ball’s Elegy, originated as an improvisation for a live radio broadcast during World War II, and like Edward Elgar’s Nimrod, has become an essential element of Remembrance Day events.
