Join historian Robert Dyson for a walk around this much-neglected area of Leeds, Mabgate.
We will start the walk in a late 18th Century Mill, discovering the development of Mabgate from medieval common land via the Industrial Revolution into the 21st-century. Along the way, you will learn about the housing, apartments, and Culture with plenty of surprises to discover!
Meeting Point: The walk will start at Wren Bakery located in Mabgate Mill, why not arrive 30 mins before and grab yourself a coffee and delicious homemade cake?
Finishing Point: The walk will end at Hope House, 63 Mabgate.
Environment: The distance covered is moderate but you will need to be prepared for frequent stops at points of interest along the route. Whilst everyone is welcome, and every care is taken, please make sure you are fit enough to go on a 1.5hr walking tour, and one which may occasionally pass over uneven ground or means negotiating busy stretches of the city. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear – tours go ahead in most weathers unless we feel that enjoyment will be severely curtailed, or – of course – conditions are dangerous.
Parking: Parking in Mabgate can be difficult – there is usually car parking available behind Pratts Furniture Store which is located close by on Regent Street (access via Byron Street or Bridge Street.)
