An exhibition of performance art, video, installations and drag, featuring work from Meg Erridge, Florence Bennett, Pop Tart, Florence Wake and Rachel Prince.

Check. Check again. Check me out. You’d better double take.

Look twice when I turn around, when you see my face, when I give my tail a shake and pull out my pocket watch; clock me, clock me bitch. Double cheque.

Watch as we combine drag, performance art, installation and video, all for your pleasure. Look through our land of freaks and players, of counters and encounters, of checkerboards spilling out into the night.

Watch us break rules, make moves, lose, seduce. Look twice. Look hard.

7pm - 10.45pm (drop-in anytime with performances running all night, ticket required)

All money from ticket sales goes towards meeting the show’s running costs. Any profits will be split between all the people working on the show. If you are able to ‘pay it forward’, your donations will help us pay our artists fairly for the huge amount of work they are putting in.

No one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford to attend the show, you can DM us or email rmprince280@gmail.com, and we can add you to our guestlist, no questions asked, so you can give your name at the front desk and enter for free.

    Accessibility

    Entering the Venue:

Cheque will take place in the Gig Room at Wharf Chambers.

Wharf Chambers has a ramped, wheelchair accessible back door, accessed via the alleyway to the left of the front door.

Full accessibility information about the venue can be found here: https://wharfchambers.org/accessibility-information/

    Moving around the Exhibition:

There is one step in the gig room, but there will be a wheelchair ramp in place.

There will be a fabric carpet in one area of the exhibition, at the bottom of the wheelchair ramp. It will be stuck down as well as possible, so we hope that wheelchair users will be able to move over it without any problems. Our door staff will monitor it throughout the night, and if it moves or bunches when you move over it, they will be able to move it back for you. If you use a weight-bearing cane or crutch, we recommend that you walk around the carpet, not over it, in case it slips.

    Seating at Cheque:

There will be a few seats in the exhibition space. They will not have arms. They will be the wooden pew, adjoined wooden chairs, and green couches that are always in the gig room. There will be additional seating in the bar and beer garden.

    Lighting at Cheque:

Lighting in the exhibition will be fairly dim with a few spotlights on artworks. There will be a video playing which has a slight flickering effect. The event photographer may use flash (details below under Photography).

    Sounds at Cheque:

There will be live singing, at times with a backing track, intermittently throughout the night. Regrettably, we will not have an interpreter present, but only one of our performances will involve sound. There will be a video playing with gentle whirring and clicking sounds, similar to the sound of a typewriter. Audience members are welcome to chat in the space.

    Audience Interaction:

Performers will occasionally speak or sing to audience members in the exhibition space. If at any point you feel uncomfortable with this, please make an X sign with your hands or arms, and the performer will move on.

Performers will not touch intentionally audience members without explicit verbal consent.

    Information Sheets:

There will be information sheets about the exhibition that you can pick up. They will include a QR code that you can scan to get a digital copy.

    Safety and Support:

Guests are free to come and go at any time.

All guests will have been made aware of the audience code of conduct.

Some work in the exhibition will allude to ideas about queer identities, including gender dysphoria. This will not be explicit and we do not believe it will be triggering, but just in case…

Our Door Staff (sat near the entrance to the Events Space) will be Safer Spaces Reps - they will be wearing labels saying ‘Safer Spaces Rep’ so you can identify them. You can speak to them if you have any questions, need anything, or find something in the exhibition triggering and want support. They are not trained mental health professionals, but they can listen to you, reassure you, and signpost you to other resources.

You can also approach Wharf Chambers’ staff, found behind the bar, if you have any concerns.

    Photography:

There will be a photographer present at this event. They will not take photos of the faces of any of our guests without permission. They may approach you and ask whether you would be happy for your photo to be taken. Photographs that are taken may be shared online, including on social media. The photographer may use flash, but will ask permission first if they want to use flash close to your face.

    Financial Barriers:

NOTAFLOF (No one turned away for lack of funds) - if you want to come to Cheque but can't afford to buy a ticket, message us on Instagram @cheque_leeds or email rmprince280@gmail.com, and we'll add you to our guestlist, no questions asked. Then just give your name to the safer spaces reps on the door.

If you need any more access info, or if there is something we could do to make the exhibition more accessible to you, please get in touch by emailing Rachel Prince at rmprince280@gmail.com or messaging @cheque_leeds on Instagram
