Decommissioning an Icon of the North: ‘Light’ Neville Street, Leeds 2009-22

Join MAAP & Partners at Sable Studios in Leeds for a re-staging of ‘A Light and Sound Transit’, a major public art installation, with artist Hans Peter Kuhn, architect Irena Bauman, and project partners in conversation.

For over a decade, the interplay of light and sound transformed ‘Light’ Neville Street, Leeds from a noise-filled and unpleasant gateway tunnel into an immersive urban landscape for its 19,000 daily users.

'Loss' by Amelia Klein and Oli Dickinson

Amelia Klein and Oli Dickinson present 'Loss', a sculptural duo show.

"Since meeting at uni, we always found our practices interlink as we make cathartic art to share with viewers our personal understandings of loss/ ambiguous loss. After suffering different yet similar forms of loss surrounding our father figures - our bond grew stronger as we navigated our grief side by side. We both share familial pain and try to exorcise it through creating tangible sculptures from intangible introspections.

The Promised Land

A Leeds Development Corporation Photography Exhibition.

Experience Leeds at the turn of the 1990s in our new exhibition featuring original Leeds Development Corporation slides and modern day photography.

Since September 2023, a team of volunteers at Leeds Civic Trust have been cataloguing sites captured in a collection of photo slides given to us by the now defunct Leeds Development Corporation (1988-1995).  Our volunteers have identified the locations in over 500 slides and have photographed the sites as they stand today.

The Spring Exhibition

'The Spring Exhibition' is presented by The Art Court in collaboration with Rushbond in their stunning First White Cloth Hall on Kirkgate in Leeds City Centre. The show acknowledges the history of trading undyed cloth in the building with references to weaving, grids, textiles and repetitive patterns.

The exhibition has a floaty and ethereal feel with a lot of white, cream and muted tones, and features the work of:

H E A V E N - Exhibition

Hyde Park Art Club are delighted to announce a solo presentation of works by Leed based artist George Storm Fletcher, curated by Sarah Roberts, Benedetta D’ettorre and George Storm Fletcher.

For the exhibition ‘H E A V E N’ Fletcher has collaborated with Leeds-based Filmmaker Ronnie Danaher to commit this storytelling to the screen, creating a new film piece. This centres on a main road artery that runs through the student centre of Leeds- the infamous Kirkstall Road.

Apocalypse Remix Workshops

Don't wait for the future to happen, come along to our Apocalypse Remix workshops with Edek Thompson and invent it!

Edek is an artist who is looking at how nature will adapt to the future in an era of accelerated climate change but with a large dose of humour.

Come and join us for one, several or even all of our workshops to work with Ed as he assembles his coterie of creatures; adaptations and mutations all spliced with the funny gene.

No art experience needed . . .

Edek Thompson: Apocalypse Remix

Edek Thompson is an artist with one foot in the apocalypse, well actually several feet, mostly webbed and at the end of super long legs to deal with the rising tides of climate change. His work is a humorous take on a serious subject. Ed invites you to join him at BasementArtsProject and imagine a post-climate change environment in which humans and animals have evolved to deal with their new circumstances.

The Chapeltown Photography Project

A new photography project from Historic England has been launched, which aims to capture Chapeltown’s African and Caribbean community.

The Chapeltown Photography Project will be led by photographer and local resident Solomon Charles-Kelly who will work with the community over the next five months to create a portrait of the North Leeds suburb. He will be supported by Lens Lab Project, a Leeds-based non-profit arts organisation.
