Kirkstall Abbey

Abbey Walk, Kirkstall, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS5 3EH

Step inside one of Britain's most beautiful ruined abbeys.

Located in tranquil parkland on the banks of the River Aire, Kirkstall Abbey's stunning architecture has inspired generations.

Over 860 years old, Kirkstall Abbey is one of Britain’s best preserved Cistercian abbeys. The breath-taking architecture, with soaring columns and atmospheric park has provided inspiration to artists, including JMW Turner. Come and explore this amazing place in the heart of Yorkshire.

Unlock the history of the abbey through the stories and artefacts displayed in the Visitor Centre. See a brand new display with medieval floor tiles and small personal items found in the abbey guest house.

The abbey parkland offers a countryside haven just outside the city. Find out why it’s one of the best loved spots in Leeds all year round.

Wheelchair Access

The visitor centre is fully accessible and so are most of the grounds. Please note that Kirkstall Abbey is a heritage site and some areas of the grounds are cobbled and/or uneven.
