CLAY is a centre for artworks that test boundaries. We bat for artists whose practice is hard to define by supporting risk, experimentation and interdisciplinary live artworks.
We want to provide stability for the artists who fall between the cracks by creating the first Art Centre for live art practice. We work with artists with both emerging and established practices.
We are a touring venue and a space to make art and performance and as well as home for our Studio Community. If you want to support our bold vision go to our Membership page.
We are a not for profit company located in Leeds City Centre. Looking for a contemporary warehouse-style space for an event? You can also hire our space. We have a bar and large range of lighting and sound options, as well as versatile space and friendly staff.
It has a single step access to a single door that opens into the venue. The door is 32 inches wide. We have a metal ramp for the step; front of house staff will put this out upon request.
We have 2 gender-neutral toilets that are down a flight of stairs that is 12 steps. Unfortunately, there is no lift in our building. The rest of the building is on one floor. Wherever possible, with our limited budgets, we hire in an accessible toilet (portaloo).
We have Access tickets available which include a Carer/Companion seat – see our ticket prices on our events pages.
We do not currently have facilities for hearing loops, BSL or captioned performances, but all videos and films that we publicise as CLAY are captioned.
We always have a first aider on site at all our events.
Unless stated otherwise all performances here are relaxed so if you need to get up and move, stand, leave the space, go to the toilets or get some fresh air, you are welcome to do so.
We often programme performances and events outside of our venue and whenever the information is available to us, accessibility information for these events will accompany the events listing.
