Alice In Bloomers

Alice In Bloomers
Written by Becky Cherriman  23/09/2016

On a hot September day last week, a few of us met in the David Atkinson Room at Morley Library to see what we could discover about one of Morley’s undersung heroes, Alice Cliff Scatcherd (1842-1906). I’m delighted to be writing a one woman show inspired by Alice that is supported by Arts Council’s Grants For The Arts and Leeds Inspired. In attendance were also period costumier, Allana Marsh, Gina Day, Clive McManus and Julie Heeley from Morley Community Archives.Alice Cliff Scatcherd’s scrapbook, conserved by West Yorkshire Archives as part of the History to Her Story project is part of...

Casey Orr: Portraits of Anarchists

Casey Orr: Portraits of Anarchists
Written by Casey Orr  14/07/2016

My portrait series Portraits of Anarchists from 1996 is being shown at The Chemic Tavern in Leeds as part of Jimmy Cauty’s Aftermath Dislocation Principle; a post-riot diarama of a city that was shown at Banksy’s Dismaland last summer. This is new edit of the original series of Portraits of Anarchists. This work has never been digitized and consequently much of it hasn’t been seen for 20 years. Many of the people photographed aren’t with us anymore and many others have continued to organize, be active in social movements, make art and work collectively.
