Opera North is assessing government guidance and working to reschedule events where possible. They will update ticket holders as information becomes available, and assure them that they will be able to choose to move their booking to an alternative date, receive credit to use in the next 12 months or receive a full refund. Opera North thanks its audiences for their patience and support as plans are adjusted.

It’s time to reflect and explore Leeds in a very different way…

Pick up a pair of headphones and take a musical adventure through the city with South African cellist, composer and improviser Abel Selaocoe's new work for the Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North, embracing the healing power of walking.

A series of transmitters triggers each chapter of the composition as your journey unfolds, taking in some of Leeds’ most recognisable landmarks. Abel and the ensembles are joined at various points by Zimbabwean mbira player Anna Mudeka, Moroccan guimbri player Simo Lagnawi, and djembe virtuoso Sidiki Dembélé from the Ivory Coast.

At times uplifting with the full Chorus and Orchestra, at others reflective with just a single voice, As You Are is "about walking and exploring what is around us while we listen”, says Abel. “You can find so many cultures in this space: it’s about celebrating that, asking people to come as they are, but to look beyond themselves, to be curious and to find comfort and healing in other people and their cultures and philosophies."

Please see Opera North COVID safety measures for further information. The route is accessible to wheelchair users. Due to ongoing roadworks in the city this may change and we will inform customers if this occurs.
