Leeds Central Library

Municipal Buildings, Calverley Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 3AB

In the past, people used to write in their books freely, putting their thoughts and emotions in the margins. Their annotations have become an invaluable source for historians of reading.

Dr Nina Adamova (British Academy Visiting Fellow, St Petersburg University) will explore early English annotations in one of Leeds Central Library’s treasures – the Nuremberg Chronicle (1497), discussing how this most outstanding book on world history was read and interpreted in Tudor and Stuart England.

Our copy of the Chronicle will be on display.
