Seven week course.
This upcycling fashion course enables you to bring to life to a pair of your favourite jeans for example, or, an old t-shirt, a dress, even tailoring a man’s shirt into a woman’s shirt etc. Products can be embellished using old jewellery to bling up and re-vamp an old t-shirt. Buttons, ribbons, embroidery and beading, cutting up old jeans and re-fashioning and making it into a memory style bag.
Who is the course aimed at?
This course is aimed and those with basic sewing skills and wish to develop their skills further.
By the end of the course I will have learned:
You will learn a variety of upcycle ideas and methods, such as patchworking, applique work and changing a male shirt into a female form, with soft tailoring techniques. Your tutor also offers frequent demonstrations throughout the course to keep inspiration flowing. Developing your creative processes and building on your sewing skills.
Do I need any skills, experience or qualifications before I join the course?
Some basic sewing skills.
What equipment will I need for the course?
You will need a sewing machine and a device that can connect to the internet and internet access.
What materials will I need for the course?
A garment or several items you wish to re-use (Eg t-shirt, mans shirt, jeans, dress etc) Needles and pins, Domestic sewing machine, Tape Measure, Fabric Scissors, Tailors Chalk, Stitch Un-picker, Colour Cotton Thread, Ruler, Assorted haberdashery, personal choices (e.g. old buttons, lace, embroidery thread and hoops, scraps of fabric, bias binding pieces can be used as applique, denim, beads from jewellery, fabric paints).
What activities will I take part in and how will my course be structured?
Using old or pre-loved garments, you will be re-fashioning and transforming garments into a new and wearable/useable items. Sewing both by hand and machine. Embellishments such as embroidery, beading, using old jewellery or buttons, fraying of denim to add vintage/distressed look, applique work, using trims such as lace/ribbon etc or hand painting onto garments. The list is endless and personalised to mark your individual stamp and wear or showcase your personalised and unique designs.
What will be expected of me in terms of personal or time commitment?
It is important that you attend all the sessions. If for some reason you can not attend a session then you must inform your tutor.
How will my learning be assessed and reviewed?
There will be no formal assessment. Written and verbal feedback from your tutor throughout. An opportunity to ask questions and have discussions.
What could I go on to do after I have finished the course?
You will be able to progress onto further sewing courses to develop your skills.
