Stomp, stomp, big fuss! Here comes the Story Bus!
Sam and Nelly are back on the road! From late January to early February keep and eye out for our Story Buses, perfect for the under 5s. They're packed with brilliant board books, perfect picture books and terrific toys just for that age group. They are covered inside and out in beautiful illustrations by author and illustrator Nick Sharratt, chosen by little ones in Children's Centres across Leeds.
This route we're taking it back to the beginning, and continuing to partner with Children's Centres all over the city. We'll be delivering quality Story & Rhyme sessions to loads of little ones all over Leeds through their childcare provision, while their families can hop on board with them to borrow books to take home and share together.
Families can also start their Ready Steady Readers journey, learn about other Library and Council services, or explore books together with guidance and recommendations from our Librarian.
Ready Steady Readers: Ready Steady Readers challenge is available in any library in Leeds for children under 5. There are six gold stars to collect inside a friendly and accessible reading booklet, along with lots of helpful tips about enjoying books and reading as a family. Stars are collected by coming to the library, whether you stay to explore books, attend a Story & Rhyme or just pop in to borrow a book. Once they have all six stars they will receive a certificate celebrating their achievement. Families are welcome to complete the challenge multiple times.
The Story Bus routes are informed by our city's needs. We're always hard at work planning our next route, so if you work in a Children's Centre, Community Centre or charity that works with children under 5 and you want the Story Bus to visit you on its next taster route, drop us an email at Leeds.Story.Bus@Leeds.gov.uk and we'll see what we can do!
As the focus is on these early years settings, we have limited stops this time around for the general public to access the bus.
