Online Event

part of Yorkshire Dance's Climate Encounters festival

In this spotlight talk, artist and choreographer Simone Kenyon will talk about her most recent place relation project Into the Mountain that explored the physical, cultural and social entanglements to mountainous environments. This was a year- long programme of curated events, workshops, traineeships and culminated in a performance experience within the Cairngorms Mountains in North East Scotland.

Simone will discuss the creative process for this extensive and multi-faceted project, considering how dance work has the ability to be part of intersectional dialogues with land management practices and ownership, working with ecology and place, gender and geography, mountain access, mountaineering history and current sectors.

She might also let us in on some of the less romantic but very realistic elements of making work within the complexities of rural environments.

This event will include the showing of the film “How The Earth Must See Itself – A Thirling”
