From quills in chambers to purpose-built premises: offices through time
20 Apr 2019 2:30pm - 4:30pm
Before computers, before telephones, before offices as such … Walk with me from the late 18th century to the middle of the 19th century
What happened before there were purpose-built offices? Where did lawyers, bankers, insurance agents, stockbrokers, surveyors and other ‘white collar’ professionals carry out their work? How did an identifiable office district emerge? Follow the story from the medieval yards, via Albion Street to the impressive edifices of Park Row and beyond.
Your tour guide, Rachael Unsworth, researched the history of the office district with economic historian Professor Maurice Beresford. Find out more about your guide here: https://www.leedscitywalkingtours.co.uk/
Meet outside Santander, Briggate LS1 6AS – close to the junction with Albion Place.
Please check times with event organiser for any last minute changes.
