Leeds Print Workshop

Explore drawing and monoprinting techniques to develop portraits on this one day workshop.
Learn and develop your skills and confidence in using a range of media such as charcoal, pencil and graphite to create drawn portraits., working from reference images.

You will then experiment with monoprinting using a technique in which the inked up plate is drawn into and partially wiped away, creating light and dark areas (chiaroscuro) before making prints of your portraits.

The workshop will be taught in a step by step way with tutor advice and guidance.

What experience do I need?

This is a mixed ability workshop for complete beginners and those with some previous drawing and printmaking experience.

Those who have some previous experience may benefit from a fresh approach to working and learn how to develop portraiture in printmaking.

What will I make?

You will draw portraits onto A3 cartridge paper using a range of monotone media to first develop drawing skills, working from portrait reference images.

You will also produce monoprints onto large sheets of A2 cartridge paper using oil based inks and our etching presses.

    Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and accessible toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one blue badge car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street, subject to availability.

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
