Celebrate the centenary of historian Maurice Beresford with an exploration of the deep roots of today's financial services

Before computers, before telephones, before offices as such … How and where did lawyers, bankers, surveyors, architects and insurance agents work? Walk with me, on the day that marks 100 years since Maurice’s birth, from the late 18th century to the middle of the 19th century and find out about the ancestors of today’s flourishing businesses.

This is the story told in the research that Maurice and I did together when he was in his 80s and I was a geography lecturer.

See also tours on Sat 8 and Sun 9 Feb - linked to Maurice's 1988 book 'East End, West End: the face of Leeds during urbanisation'.

Meet on Briggate beside Virgin Money LS1 6HD (west side, near the corner of Commercial Street)
