Leeds Central Library

Municipal Buildings, Calverley Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 3AB

In this illustrated talk, Dr Kara McKechnie, will explore the work of Alan Bennett and his relationship to his native Yorkshire. As a playwright of many voices, what is special about the Yorkshire characters and places in Bennett's work? How does he portray the Leeds in which he grew up in the 1930s and 40s with changes over the decades?

Fittingly, the talk will take place in Leeds Central Library, where Bennett used to do his homework while a pupil at Leeds Modern Grammar. There will be time for a Q+A afterwards, where attendees will be able to share their own memories and views on Alan Bennett and his work.

Sanderson Room, Third floor.
