Jewellery on Saturdays
Saturdays 10am - 3pm
Join us for this 5 week course in our fully equipped Jewellery studio, this leisure course aims, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, to provide a community of craft, encouraging creativity and expression through the practice of making jewellery.
This course will introduce you to the workshop & how to use the equipment. Students will use base metals to learn the techniques to make their own jewellery pieces.
Sharp tools will be used.
Each session aims to enable students to progress at their own pace. While promoting a lively and mutually supportive group, the course aims to provide:
Instruction to the essential techniques used in the jewellery workshop.
How to use solder one piece of metal to another with the gas torch.
How to saw, cut & file metal into the shape you want.
How to decorate the metal surface with punches, hammers & using the rolling mill.
Making your own findings to join elements together & to add ear wires etc.
Finishing – oxidising & polishing final pieces.
Guidance in safety and good practice in the workshop.
Encouragement to stretch students’ creative skills.

Swarthmore is a not - for - profit Registered Charity, all students enrolling onto a course that is of 6 hours or more will have to pay a one off annual membership fee of £12. Being a member of Swarthmore not only gives you access to our courses but allows you to attend and vote at the annual AGM on the 26th of February 2020.

warthmore is located in a building created by combining several Georgian houses. The floors are uneven and there are steps and stairs. We have a lift giving access from the ground floor to the basement and there is also a platform lift in the Art Studio - but there is no lift to the first floor of the building.
Please visit us before enrolling to ensure that you are happy with access to your course.
We aim to make courses as accessible as possible and will relocate them to a downstairs room if we can.
