Practical Tips for Writing a Family History Whilst Avoiding Bad Mistakes...
In this session, the experienced Family Historian Richard Smith will offer a series of practical tips on how to research, write out and publish a Family History.
He will present some of the lessons learnt whilst spending twenty years producing A SAGA OF SMITHS: AN EPIC FAMILY HISTORY. He will cover such topics as devising a research strategy and handling ambiguity and confusion in historical sources.
Suggestions on how to avoid common pitfalls in producing a family history will also be given. Some reference will be made to ethical issue such as the need to respect confidentiality and avoid copyright violation.
The emphasis in this session will be on the development of useful skills rather than on telling colourful family stories.
