Global Collective is the brand-new summer course where performing arts meets creative media.

For two weeks, young people aged 12-18 will work with professional creatives to explore artforms including dance, theatre, music and creative media, with influences from all over the world.

They will work together to create an original performance debuted in the new state-of-the-art theatre at Leeds City College or streamed online (depending on COVID restrictions).

The fees for the two-week project are £240 per participant. We encourage all participants to attend for the full two weeks of Global Collective and do not offer the option of attending for one week only.

FREE PLACES

However, we do not want cost to be a barrier to taking part, so we also offer free places to families on a low income. These are funded by the Ann Maguire Arts Education Fund.

If you would like to apply for a free place, please:

  • fill in this form
  • send a letter of support from a teacher*
  • film a 1 minute video about why you want to join Global Collective

*The teacher can be your form tutor, or Art, Music or Dance teacher - as long as they know you well and why you would benefit from being part of Global Collective, they can write the letter.

Please send the letter and video to Selina McGonagle (selina@gcfoundation.co.uk). To attach the video, please use WeTransfer (instructions are on the free place application form).

Do get in touch if you have any questions about the free places.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Everyone is welcome at Global Collective! The programme is designed for young people aged 12 - 18 (up to 25 with a learning disability) with varying levels of experience. We will be exploring artforms from all over the world so participants will develop existing talents and discover new interests.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

Throughout the two weeks participants will be working in groups of mixed age and ability to develop skills in a specific art form.

The project will include exclusive 'masterclasses’ from artists with regional, national, and international acclaim and reputation to introduce the theme of the work.

Find out more about our artists here.

Participants will then collaborate with our professional artists to develop their skills and prepare for a live (or live-streamed) performance.

Global Collective gives participants the chance to learn about themselves through the arts, create something of their own, while working in a fun yet professional environment with some of the best artists Leeds has to offer.

Please note that the form of the project is dependent on the COVID restrictions and is therefore subject to change. We will endeavour to ensure Global Collective goes ahead fully in person, but we are planning contingencies and will always prioritise safety.

WHY JOIN IN?

  • meet new people that love the arts like you do
  • learn more about your passion, and other art forms
  • create a performance yourself
  • work with amazing artists
  • build confidence in your abilities
