As part of Leeds Libraries BBC Novels programming join Ann from Cards or Die for a series of workshops to explore a wide range of games.
Ann Jones runs Cards or Die board gaming and is passionate about bringing people together with board games, Ann brings and teaches board games at weddings, festivals, parties, corporate events and training. She creates bespoke board games for training. As part of her work in proofreading and editing services she created The Board Games Tool Kit.
1. Adventure: Co-operative Games.
In this session we will look at two games that use a co-operative, choose your own adventure mechanic to take players on a challenging expedition together.
2. Life, Death and other worlds. Solo games and voting.
We start this session from beyond the veil... once we've solved the mystery of our untimely demises we will move on to examine art, mechanics and player numbers.
3. Crime and Conflict - programming, asymmetry and silence.
Ghosts, train robbers, sharp shooters and time travel: how will this story unfold and which is the best way to tell it?
4. Rule Breakers - Creating a world with components.
A whistle stop tour of many inspirational approaches to boards, pawns and pieces. Some of the best stories start with an object.
You can attend all four workshops or pop into one. If you attend all four you will be armed with all of the information on how to create your very own game. All you need is a pen, paper and your curiosity!
You can also join us for a two day jam that will aim to introduce the joys of storytelling and reading by creating games inspired by the BBC’s 100 Novels That Shaped Our World. You can create video games, board games, escape games, card games – anything you want!
