Eco Printing Introduction Workshop
22 Aug 2020 10:30am - 4:30pm
Introduction to eco printing using leaves. You will be guided through the process of nature-based printing by demonstrating the mordanting and steaming involved of the fabric. The process is unpredictable and results in a subtle colour palette suggestive of alchemy and traditional fabric staining. You will experiment wrapping leaf collections into bundles, producing a series of samples.
Please bring along with you a selection of leaves to dye with, I suggest selecting fallen leaves on the ground (or from your own or friend's garden); oak, birch, chestnut, brambles (blackberry), Rose and smoke bush leaves. Waxy leaves and flowers don't produce good results however hydrangea and marigolds often can.
Fabric will be provided which is specifically prepared for dying. If you wish to bring any of your own fabrics, it is important that your fabrics are scoured prior to the workshop to remove the chemicals. Please contact me directly to find out the method of treating your fabric - firstname.lastname@example.org
This workshop is suitable for those with no prior knowledge of textiles or dyeing techniques.
Please note: Clothing is at risk of staining so please dress appropriately in an apron, bring rubber gloves and also a plastic bag to take away wet items.
These workshops take place in my home studio and my garden.
During this period of social distancing and lockdown due to Coronavirus we advise that you check directly with the organiser of this event that it is going ahead as publicised.
