Zine & exhibition curated by Suzy Babington
The penis is humanities most ancient and prevalent symbol. In Dik Piks, an exhibition curated by Suzy Babington, 22 artists contribute their own interpretation of the penis. Some works are suggestively phallic, and others more obvious. The penis features in many imaginative ways taking on different meanings with each artist. The exhibition serves as a phallic monument to what it is to be human; sociologically and existentially the exhibition looks back as well as forwards at where we stand in our relationship to the world and ourselves.
Exhibiting 22 penis pictures by contemporary painters may also address male dominance in the 20th century world of painting, as by hugging that idea close any perceived male orientation may become a joke.
Each artist bring a different meaning with their own work.
The exhibition hosts a dynamic range of artists from Leeds, London and the USA. The group consists of recent graudates including Royal Accademy, Slade and The Royal College as well as other emerging artists who have shown with The Zabludowicz collection and Got It For Cheap Worldwide.
