Ceramic Button/Tile Making
4 Apr 2020 10:30am
A fantastic opportunity to create a number of unique ceramic buttons, door plaques or tiles to your own design which you can use on your own special projects (eg buttons for an item of clothing or a cushion, a plaque for a specific door in the home, tiles for a splashback, tabletop etc)
On the day you’ll learn the techniques for making ceramic buttons/plaques/tile from scratch, this includes clay preparation, cutting, texture and colour. Glazing and kiln firing of a number of your best pieces (eg a dozen buttons, 6 tiles/plaques (depending on size and quality)) will be done after the workshop by Margaret and will be available for collection from Fabrication in Leeds (or via post for an additional fee of £3.50).
No previous experience is necessary.
The workshop is run by Margaret Glackin who is an experienced ceramic designer-maker.
All the equipment and materials will be provided
• Coloured slip
• All tools related to the process
• Process notes
• Sample ideas and colour chart
Students need to bring:
• An overall/apron
• Optional – special pastry/cookie cutters to make shapes (some will be available)
• Optional – special cloth remnants with raised shape (eg lace) or embossed stamps
• Ideas of button shapes/designs or a project you have in mind e.g coat, cushion, bag, table top or door
