Borderline + live score
10 Feb 2019 1pm
Paul Robeson’s second ever screen appearance was in this avant-garde and rarely screened film. Made in 1930, at a time when there was substantial censorship of homosexual texts in England, this groundbreaking silent film fizzed with inter-racial sexual tension and implicit homoerotic subjectivity. Unconventional in form, its psychological realism is achieved through the use of montage techniques.
Screened with live improvised music by electronic artist Mr WobblyHead, featuring the rich and powerful vocals of alternative RnB artist M.I . Expect a soundtrack as gritty, challenging and unexpected as the film.
DIRECTOR: Kenneth MacPherson
