Beginners Woodwork - Making A Small Bench

The course is designed to teach absolute beginners the fundamental skills, techniques & principals of woodworking. We welcome participants with no experience.

The course is a mixture of theory and practical learning. The aim of this course is to show complete beginners the principles of wood working by making their own small bench for them to take home! Participants will gain an understanding of all the basic terms & techniques required.

Participants will be shown how to use the most basic of tools correctly and safely, plus:

How to use a drill and the appropriate drill bits
How to use a saw - The different types of saws and angles
Screws & glue and how to use them correctly - which to choose!
Measuring and marking - tapes, squares and sliding bevels
How to identify common woods & sheet materials
How to make your own bench hook - for you to take home!
An introduction to chisels and joints
