In his new feature, masterful Zhangke Jia (A Touch of Sin, Still Life) extends his critique of rapid globalisation that radically changed China, and deepens his exploration of complex characters positioned on the margins of society – lost but rebellious.

One night in 2001, young dancer Qiao (Tao Zhao) and her mobster boyfriend Bin (Fan Liao) become involved in a gang fight that forces Qiao to cover and take the blame. After five years in prison, she emerges to find her world has been transformed. Her former associates have moved into legitimate businesses and Bin has found another woman. Qiao seeks revenge, but, more importantly, she searches for a new identity in a changing China.
