Art School for Rebel Girls
12 Apr 2019 - 18 Apr 2019
An exhibition of collectively produced animation, print and sculpture made by young women at Carr Manor Community School and The Co-operative Academy of Leeds. Part of Pavilion’s ongoing Art School for Rebel Girls project.
Produced by a collective of girls from year nine and ten, the exhibition is the culmination of the second year of Pavilion’s ongoing Art School for Rebel Girls (ASFRG) project, supported by Soroptimist Leeds.
ASFRG offers a freer and more expansive approach to art and inspires young women to value themselves, to believe they can succeed, and to think big. This year the group have worked collaboratively to create artworks that take up space and interrogate their place in the world; from large-scale gestural painting to stop-motion animation.
2019’s ASFRG programme culminates with a Spring Workshop at Pavilion and University of Leeds. The intensive programme includes print workshops with artist Helen De Main, curating sessions with the Pavilion team, and a visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
The Art School for Rebel Girls Exhibition opens on Friday 12 April with a celebration event from 3pm–6pm (speeches and awards at 5pm).
All welcome. Register your interest.
