Draw, paint, walk, create.

On this course, you’ll:
• Take inspiration from other artists’ work to create your own
• Look at socio-political impacts of contemporary visual art
• Collect information from going on group walks in Leeds parks
• Draw and paint

Who is the course aimed at?
Beginners and improvers.

What will students have learnt by the end of the course?
Learners will:
• Learn about their local environment
• How to use watercolour paints and drawings materials
• Drawing and painting techniques to apply to a finished work

Do students need any skills, experience or qualifications before joining the course?
No skills required.

What equipment and materials will students need for the course?
Watercolour paints, pencils, graphite, watercolour paper etc.

What activities will the students take part in and how will the course be structured?
We will meet online and in Leeds parks (weather dependent). We will gain inspiration from nature, meet together as a group in parks, work individually at home and discuss art.

What is expected of students in terms of personal or time commitment?
Students are expected to attend all sessions, and if they can't make it to inform the class tutor or centre as soon as possible. Students will also be expected to record their learning and progress with the support of their tutor. In some cases homework may be set.

How will students learning be assessed and reviewed?
Learners will complete an individual learning plan (ILP) after discussion with tutor. Continuous assessment of progress throughout the course, by observation and discussion. Progress will be recorded on ILPs. Students will complete an individual diary to record their learning each week. Students will recieve verbal and written feedback from their tutor.

What could students go onto to after they have finished the course?
Further adult education courses.

    This course is funded by Leeds City Council and has 3 rates:
    Full Rate: £65
    Reduced Rate: £21 (For those in receipt of state pension)
    Low Rate: £5 (For those in receipt of income based state benefits)
    *You may be contacted by Swarthmore and asked to provide evidence of any fee remission claimed. You will be asked to sign a declaration as part of the application process.

    This course takes place Online via Google Classroom.

    All of our courses, whether in house, or online, have access to a Google Classroom. You will be sent a link and log in details for our Welcome Classroom, where you will find lots of useful information relating to being a student with us. You will then be sent a link to access your chosen class / classes. These contain lots of additional and useful information relating to your course.

    For online courses, please make sure you join the Welcome Class as soon as possible as this gives you access to your chosen online class.

    Requirements:

    • Equipment such as Chrome book or laptop to access our online classes. (If you do not have any IT equipment, we can provide access to a chromebook at the centre for in house classes).
    • Mobility issues - Please be aware that some of our classes take place in our first floor rooms and we do not have a lift available. Please contact the centre to check before booking for any courses at the centre.
    • Attendance - please make sure you are able to attend all classes before booking.
    • Membership Fees - A £12 annual membership fee is payable for all courses - you will receive an invoice for this prior to your course starting, if you have not already paid.
