Andrew Weatherall Art Tribute Unveiling + Clandestino DJs
25 Jun 2021 5pm - 11:45pm
Sheaf St opens reopens its doors to seating INSIDE in our café/bar as well as outside on Sheaf St.
We have a special treat to unveil too - a stunning new large piece of public artwork located on the outside of our venue – a tribute to the life and work of Andrew Weatherall by mosaic artist Mary Goodwin.
From 5pm The DJs will provide a soundtrack to a seated audience, drink, food, and good times. Max 6 people indoors, max groups of 30 outdoors.
At 7pm we will unveil the amazing new permanent piece of art by Mary Goodwin, a simple unveiling, gather round, show of the tribute, and raise a glass to Andrew.
This is a first come first served event, NO RESERVATIONS, limited capacity - to be served food or drink you will need a seat - so get down early.
You are welcome to view the unveiling or drop by to see the artwork without a seat, but we will only be able to serve to the designated café and street seating.
How did this come about…?
Earlier this year a lovely chap called Andrew Ashton a big fan of Andrew Weatherall contacted Sheaf St looking for a location to place a piece of artwork he wanted to commission in tribute to Andrew Weatherall. He wanted to have the talented Mary Goodwin make a mosaic piece but have it on permeant display for all to see.
Sheaf St and our sister company In Good Company connected Andrew and Mary with Lizzie, Andrew Weatherall’s partner to ensure everything had an official sign-off. Lizzie provided the most incredible photograph from the archives and Laura (in good company) helped pull the project together with the addition of Andrew's iconic statement.
Rabbit Hole Design Agency helped with typography. Arlene Borrill helped Andrew secure some funding from Leeds Inspired, while James from Sheaf St helped sort a bunch of logistics and Laura pulled in some additional funding from the In Good Company fund. With everything lined up Mary then set to work on her creation. We cannot wait to reveal it and we are so very proud that we will be the custodians for its future.

Andrew Weatherall along with Sean Johnson were due to headline Inner City Electronic at Sheaf St back in March 2020, sadly Sean took to the decks solo after Andrew passed away just days before. It turned out to be the last show at Sheaf St before lockdown closed us down. If you were there you know how special it was!
We had planned to unveil the artwork before the ALFOS reopening show on June 26th – but the roadmap delay has set that back, we decided to soldier on and still unveil as planned – we thought that marking a setback with a gloriously perfect tribute is the energy we need to be putting out to the world right now. Fail we may, Sail we must.
Mary’s piece is now complete and ready to be admired – we hope you all love it as much as we do.
During this period of social distancing and lockdown due to Coronavirus we advise that you check directly with the organiser of this event that it is going ahead as publicised.
