Aire and locks after lockdown: the waterways of Leeds
5 Jul 2020 2:30pm - 4:30pm
A walk beside the river/Navigation and Leeds & Liverpool Canal – plenty of space and fresh air
Natural features and events have always been fundamental elements of the city’s story. Feats of engineering have altered and created waterways. The changing economy has exploited and valued different aspects of the waterways.
Come and explore the ways that the River Aire has flowed through the history of the city. Find out about the making of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and how it influenced the economy. We’ll walk beside the waterways, cross bridges when we come to them, and consider the changing nature and purpose of these arteries.
Meet near The Hop, Granary Wharf, close to exit from Dark Arches. What3words.com location is sculpture.matter.costs
COVID-19 safety: maximum number on tour will be 15. We will be in the open air all the time and there will be no need to touch any surfaces with your hands.
I will not be wearing a mask because the sound would be too muffled and some people need to use lip reading to augment their hearing. You're welcome to wear a mask, though in the open air it seems that there is low risk.
You are advised to bring your own refreshments + hand sanitiser in case you need it. Toilets will be available in the city centre before and after the tour.
During this period of social distancing and lockdown due to Coronavirus we advise that you check directly with the organiser of this event that it is going ahead as publicised.
