Paul McCartney, Shakin' Stevens, Val Doonican…there was a time when no self-respecting pop star aiming for Christmas Number 1 would dream of appearing on Top of the Pops without a stunningly festive jumper.
So this Christmas, to accompany Woolly Warmers, our series of free mini music concerts in Leeds we're inviting you to channel your playful spirit, get designing and customise your own Christmas jumpers to wear over the festive season. We'd love you to take photos of your creations and send them to us - the best design will win a special prize.
Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
2. Winter Spruce:
Find us at Bettakulcha on the 27th November where we'll be getting you to create your own paper designs to transform non-winter woollies into festive beauties with a little bit of help from S.C.R.A.P.
3. Upcycle, recycle:
Take a break from the Christmas shopping and come along to our free drop-in workshop at Fabrication's shop in the Light (formerly Confetti) on Sunday 2nd December between 12 and 3. Bring along an old jumper to refashion using our stock of goodies.
Nb if you have any old jumpers you would like to donate to the workshop please drop them off at Fabrication. Any unused jumpers will be given to St George's Crypt after the drop-in day.
4. Crafting at ho-ho-home:
Find a jumper in your local charity shop, bottom drawer or jumble sale, raid your Christmas decorations, fabric, wool and button boxes and start upcycling at home.
5. Speed knitting:
For the more ambitious among you, try Baa Ram Ewe or other local wool shops for rather special festive knitting patterns
Don't forget send us photos of your designs and creations by 20th December if you'd like to be in with a chance to win our prize. And there'll be special prizes too for anyone who turns up at the Woolly Warmer concerts in a festive jumper!
