Riptide is a new emerging immersive theatre company based in Leeds. The company specialises in giving personal and intimate experiences to audiences within public and private spaces.
We are looking to get to know performers in the local area who may be suited to the style of the company and our working methods, and whom we will consider for casting for a variety of projects over the next two years. As part of this process we are also looking to cast our first major production, which will take place in Leeds in late May/early June 2015. This is a paid opportunity.
Riptide's performance style requires committed, versatile performers with very strong improvisation and devising skills. We are looking for dynamic performers who feel comfortable engaging directly with audience members and working in unconventional locations. You must be comfortable speaking text, learning lines, devising and improvising and have a track record of performing. In addition to these attributes we are also interested to hear from performers with specialist skills such as dance, physical theatre and creating or playing music.
To apply, please email us your CV and headshot and state whether or not you have availability in late May/early June 2015. We are looking for performers aged between 18+ and who are ideally based in Leeds/West Yorkshire. We will also consider applications from performers based close to West Yorkshire or in the wider North. Please also include a brief description of why you are interested in this opportunity and engaging in site-specific or immersive theatre.
The closing date for applications is Friday 3 April.
Auditions will be held on Friday 10 & Saturday 11 April in Leeds.
Riptides are hidden, dangerous currents of water that pull you out to sea. A powerful force pulls audience members along, as they journey through our secret spaces and fragmented narratives. Riptides are unpredictable and can emerge randomly, it is only when you are in the riptide do you know it is there. Most of our performances occur in public spaces, passers-by may be oblivious to the fact you are caught in the riptide. Like the tide, our structures stay roughly the same but the way we engage audiences changes from person to person, performance to performance, day to day.
As an Equal Opportunities Employer, Riptide encourages applications from all sectors of the community, regardless of gender, age, race, sexuality or disability.
