Leeds Print Workshop is a new printmaking cooperative opening in the centre of Leeds. The workshop will host a programme of classes in screenprint, relief, intaglio and bookbinding and will also provide a studio for creatives in Leeds to access. Their aim is to build a community of printmakers and provide an affordable print workshop for artists, as well as to bring in people who are new to the medium.
We've got the space and an enthusiastic team of printmaking nerds and now they need your support to become a real workshop. The cooperative has come as far as it has with no funding and only the generosity and time put in by the founder members. What they really need now is the money to buy some vital equipment to get the workshop up and running. The print workshop has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise the funds they need to get started. There are some great perks for donating including limited edition prints, donated by the best printmakers they know. Take a look at the brilliant perks on offer.
As incredible as the arts scene in Leeds is, there isn't a space entirely given over to printmaking. Leeds Print Workshop will fill that gap, while making a contribution to the arts scene as a whole. What they're really looking forward to is building connections with other arts organisations in Leeds so they can be part of skill-sharing across the whole city.
With the help of East Street Arts, Leeds Print Workshop has a prime city centre location. Their home will be on Vicar Lane, a ten minute walk from Leeds train station and close to bus links. The building is light, airy and unique - our favourite feature is the large semi-circular windows that let in lots of sunshine. The building is really distinctive thanks to a mural on the façade by the Leeds visual arts group Goat Collective.
Leeds Print Workshop warmly invite you to their grand opening party on Friday 14th October 5-9pm at 130 Vicar Lane. Join them for a drink, take part in their art raffle with donated prints and goodies. The founding coop members will be on hand for print demonstrations and to talk about the workshop.
