Jazz Leeds Festival

Jazz Leeds Festival

The Jazz Leeds festival is a six-day edition this year. Amongst the highlights from the fifty or so performances will be marquee jazz names Soweto Kinch, Ian Shaw, Pigfoot and Nérija as well as leftfield pianist Matthew Bourne and alt.jazz absurdists Shatner’s Bassoon. Several events have a specific Leeds resonance, including Alan Barnes’ celebration of Duke Ellington’s October 1958 meeting with the Queen in Leeds, “New Briggate Blues”, a play written by Chris Nickson about Leeds legendary 1950's jazz venue Studio 20 and  “Celebrating Xero Slingsby” a tribute to local-hero punk jazz sax player the late Matthew Coe.
