We ❤ NY - Lee Ford & Jon Eland
23 Jul 2017 - 24 Sep 2017
Kapow are pleased to share with you these images of the most famous city in the world - New York.
Lee Ford's works share the results of a recent visit:
After 4 gruelling years of uni I needed to get away. I needed something that was going to bring closure. Something that would put things into perspective and help me see the bigger picture. I needed to reignite the fire in my belly that was frantically stomped out along with the aspirations of graduating, and help me progress on to the next chapter of my life. There was only one place that came to mind. A place I only ever dreamed of visiting. A place that only seemed to exist in the movies, confined within the four walls of my tv.
Yet there I was. Just me, my camera and a map that read… New York City.
Jon Eland's statement about his images is:
New York is one of the cities the world already knows - and Manhattan island is most recognisable of all. However, on arriving into the middle of it, one is simply not ready for the sheer scale of everything - the size is overwhelming.
This series is extracted from a very short trip into the financial and business capital of the world - arriving into the island by subway like so many others - I took an indirect walk from Carnegie Hall down to the Brooklyn Bridge.
The images reflect the city I found - my main aim to capture the scale. My photobook ‘Nyc ( lwr mnhtn wtc > bkln bdg )’ also covers similar images.
Further to the images submitted by the two photographers on display we are inviting other photographers to submit images to appear alongside Lee and Jon's images - and on the shop's social media channel. If you have images which fit with the theme 'Exploring the City'.
If you would like to submit images, email them (or a link to them) to firstname.lastname@example.org
unfortunately the venue is not wheelchair accessible - as the gallery spaces are only accessed via stairs
