VRï was formed in the summer of 2016 out of a desire to explore an art music approach to traditional folk tunes. With all three members playing in bands already established in the traditional music scene, they were keen to see whether they could present their shared musical heritage with the sensibilities of chamber music – whilst maintaining the spark and integrity of the ancient dance tunes.

The result is their debut album, Tŷ ein Tadau (The House of our Fathers) released this year on Erwydd Records. Although the backbone of the repertoire is traditional material from their native Wales, they also borrow tunes from all over Europe and include a few of their own – paying particular attention to the interesting and often controversial relationship between traditional music and The Methodist Chapel in Wales.
