The State of Urban Loneliness is an experience that manifests itself in so many different ways, but stems from the juxtaposed feeling of being both isolated and connected. As every one of us navigates through the urban jungle of cities and towns, we are constantly finding difficulty in making connections, despite being surrounded by so many people. This feeling is magnified by our extensive use of social media, giving us the illusion of human connection.
The exhibition features work from both amateur and professional photographers who were selected to illustrate what it means to be lonely within an urban environment. Responding in their own individual way, each artist explored this complicated terrain, one of which we have all wandered across in some way or another.
The exhibition will be shown at the Bowery Gallery in Headingley with excerpts shown in venues across the city. Thank you to Hyde Park Book Club, Nation of Shopkeepers, Leeds University Union and Cross Keys Pub for getting involved!
