Shringar - The Ornamental Beauty Of South Asia
20th April 2012 - 15th July 2012
- every day until Sun 15 Jul 2012
Leeds City Museum
Millenium Square, Leeds, LS2 8BH
The cultural landscape of Leeds is rich with hidden gems that we can all take a glimpse at through the windows of Leeds Museums and Galleries.
From 19th April to 15th July, Leeds City Museum and SAA-uk will share with you the rich performance world of Classical music and dance originating in North and South India and thriving in our City.
Come and see the intricate carving and decorative arts on instruments and the colourful jewellery and costumes worn by performers. South Asian style has become part of our British heritage and reflects the long shared history of South Asia and Britain. This display has grown out of several previous collaborations, and precedes the launch of a major new initiative by the City Museum, called 'Voices of Asia'. This project takes place over the next few years to transform the displays in the World View Gallery from Africa to Asia.
