The Sculpture Collections celebrates the enduring partnership between the Henry Moore Institute and Leeds Museums and Galleries, a union that has built one of the strongest collections of British sculpture in the world. Henry Moore laid the foundation stone for Leeds Art Gallery’s Sculpture Galleries in 1980, and to this day, sculpture continues to play a significant role in the cultural life of the city.

With more than 125 sculptures and over 75 framed works spanning fourteen spaces across the Institute and Leeds Art Gallery, this exhibition showcases Leeds’ rich collection of sculpture through five different approaches: a specific historical period, a recurring motif, a particular material, a common dialogue and a single work.

The Sculpture Collections also features two important new acquisitions: ‘Falling and Walking’ (2017), an immersive installation by contemporary artist Anne Hardy, and ‘By Bread Only – For the Demise of Icons’ (1978–9) by Tony Carter (1943–2016).
